Carper joined State Personnel Director Lisa Blunt-Bradley, Board of Pension Trustees Chairwoman A. Dale Stratton and other dignitaries to officially dedicate the new Office of Pensions at a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Friday. The new building, dedicated in memory of Donald F. McArdle, longtime Pension Administrator for the State of Delaware, incorporates advancements in technology and work space design. "As we dedicate this new home for the Office of Pensions, I think it fitting that we honor Don McArdle in this way by recognizing and celebrating his contributions to our state," Blunt-Bradley said. "The pursuit of excellence so characterized by Don's service and leadership remind all of us to rededicate ourselves to providing such high quality public service in all that we strive to achieve." Blunt-Bradley also spoke of the expanded resources within the building - resources that other agencies and employees will be able to access. The McArdle building features include four new interview rooms for employee/pensioner counseling sessions, a large conference room, and a computer training center that will accommodate Pension Office staff as well as other state agencies. "The computer training center will expand our educational outreach and help us in our efforts to maintain a highly trained workforce. It benefits us all," Blunt-Bradley said. Board of Trustees Chairwoman A. Dale Stratton kicked off the event. According to Stratton, "It is appropriate that the Pension Office's new building be dedicated to Don McArdle. Don's commitment to high standards and his dedication to fair administration continue to guide the Pension system." Current Pension Administrator David C. Craik introduced McArdle's wife, Louise, to the crowd. She and her daughters, Kathleen DeNardo, Helen McArdle-Stewart, and Peggy Graef attended the ceremony. Louise McArdle joined Senator Carper, Blunt-Bradley, Stratton and Craik in cutting the ribbon and officially opening the building. Escorted building tours were given by Pension Office employees. Craik said, "Don McArdles service to the State of Delaware not only had a lasting impact on his fellow employees, but impacted thousands of public employees and their families who receive benefits from the Delaware Public Employees Retirement System."
