Young Political Leaders Honor Washington, D.C. - The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) will honor Delaware State Personnel Director Lisa Blunt-Bradley with the 2003 Gary L. McPherson Distinguished Alumni Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. today. The Award, named for the late Gary L McPherson, who served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1994 to 2000, recognizes ACYPL alumni who have distinguished themselves in their leadership abilities in their career and community. Blunt-Bradley, whose previous positions included Delaware Secretary of Labor and deputy secretary of Delaware Health and Social Services, spent three months last year in the Middle Eastern country of Jordan helping the county develop a national poverty alleviation strategy and implementation plan in a program funded by the United States Agency for International Development. "Lisas achievements distinguish her as a dedicated and talented leader," Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner said. "I am delighted ACYPL chose to recognize her accomplishments with this award as her daily contributions and tremendous investment in people provides immeasurable benefits to all our citizens, our state and our country." Executive Director Brad Minnick said, "Lisa Blunt-Bradley is a talented administrator, active ACYPL alumnus, and excellent role model for other rising young leaders both here and abroad. She was an obvious choice for this award because of her outstanding record of accomplishment in Delaware and her many contributions to ACYPL". "This is quite an honor," Blunt-Bradley said. "I am flattered and humbled to have been chosen for the Gary L. McPherson Distinguished Alumni Award. People are drawn to public service to serve the public interest. It is the opportunity to make a difference that challenges me each and every day". The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) was formed in 1966 as a nonprofit bipartisan educational exchange organization to enhance foreign policy understanding and exposure among rising young American political leaders and their counterparts around the world. The organization achieves its goals through a broad range of practical education programs, including international exchanges, foreign policy and democracy conferences and election study programs. Award recipients are selected by a bipartisan selection committee of ACYPL Trustees and staff. This year's awards will be presented at a reception from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in downtown Washington hosted by the Northern Ireland Bureau of the British Embassy. The reception will follow a White House briefing this afternoon which will formally kick off the second annual Washington Briefing Day for ACYPL alumni from across the country. The program will conclude the following morning with a briefing for ACYPL alumni by members of Congress. For more information, call (302) 739-4195. # # # |
