State Employees Recognized at Annual Awards Event
Four receive "Delaware Award for Excellence and Commitment in State Service"

Dover – Governor Ruth Ann Minner today recognized the work and dedication of thirty State employees at the annual Delaware Award for Excellence and Commitment in State Service ceremony. The event, celebrated in conjunction with National Public Service Recognition Week each year, recognizes State employees for exceptional service and professional achievement. Acting State Personnel Director Dana Jefferson presided over the annual luncheon, held at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

“I am proud to recognize our State employees for their unwavering commitment to public service and I thank them for their many contributions to improving the quality of life for all Delaware residents,” Gov. Minner said. “The strength of our state and our communities is a tribute to our State employees who deliver vital government services to us all.”

The 2004 Delaware Award was presented to Theresa Cole, right-of-way agent at Delaware Department of Transportation for outstanding perseverance and accomplishment; Jackie Everett, laundry worker, at Department of Health and Social Services for exceptional accomplishment, leadership and innovative ideas; Correctional Lieutenant Keith Hoffer for demonstrated bravery, exceptional accomplishment and long and outstanding State service; and Harold Mack, trainer/educator, Department of Correction, for heroism as he saved the lives of two people involved in an automobile accident.

Jefferson said, “State employees at all levels of government should be commended for their often unheralded and ‘behind-the-scenes’ work that makes such a difference in our lives. These employees, in particular, have made invaluable contributions enabling State government to be recognized as more responsive, innovative and effective because of their achievements.”

Awards recipients each received a personalized plaque and a $1,500 cash award, minus appropriate tax withholdings. Their names and pictures will be displayed in the Tatnall Building Employee Hall of Honor in Dover.
